Export Credit Agency (ECA)

By September 15, 2022No Comments

An export credit agency (or ECA) or investment insurance agency is a government-owned or government-supported institution which provides export financing and / or credit insurance or guarantees to lenders. The objective of ECAs’ activities is to encourage exports and thereby to stimulate activity within their own economies. Examples are Euler-Hermes (Germany), K-Exim (Korea), UK Export Finance, (United Kingdom) and Export-Import Bank of the United States. Initially active as providers of corporately-based debt / credit insurance to exporters and foreign importers, the world’s major ECAs now regularly provide support on a project / limited-recourse basis.
