Philosophy Narrandera has had a successful practice since 1974 and in 1988 expanded from 3 consultation rooms to 10 and doubling nursing capacity. Just recently we have completed the renovations of Stage 1 as a GP Super Clinic. We now have 10 consulting rooms. Since 1998 we have mentored and trained GP Registras and on occasions been happy for those Registras to stay longer at the practice or return as locums to help us out. We understand the importance and support the participation of school students, medical students, registras and doctors from Australia and abroad. We have supported and employed Overseas trained doctors through the Area Of Need Program which was very successful. In the broader scheme of things we support and will continue to support these programs and hope to give the students and doctors a glimpse of the skills, dedication, life style, companionship and friendship that we experience in a rural community. Our mission is to provide the highest standard of patient care whilst incorporating a holistic approach toward prevention, diagnosis and management of illness and aim for the best health care out comes for the patient. We are committed to promoting health, wellbeing and disease prevention to all patients. We do not discriminate in the provision of excellent care and aim to treat all patients with dignity and respect.
Training style Hands on consulting with GPs attendence, supervisor with patient consent. Visiting local hospital and aged care facilities with GPs. We always implement a daily time table or roster for our students or GP Registrar. This includes the GP they are attached to, consult time, hospital time and tutoring time. The GPs of NGPM cover on call for after hours through our local hospital and perform patient rounds each morning. They also visit Aged Care Hostels and support Allied Health Care Providers that visit our practice. We provide a variety of skills and knowledge to our students and registras in different ways Narrandera has a nicely equipped theatre at the hospital and students and registrars are welcome to observe and participate. Our visiting specialists are willing to share knowledge. Allocated time is made for student or registrar on a daily basis with the supervisor during consultations. Our Nurse Triage Centre is a great source of training and experience. We find in a rural practice that the student or registrar experiences the complete care given to a patient from onset of illness or problem to the completion of care needed for that illness or problem. In a rural practice you need to act like the first Aider, treat like the GP and think like the specialist!!! What a diverse, fulfilling and exciting profession!
