Applying to CCCGPT

The following is for applicants who are applying to the CCCGPT sub-regions of both Lower Eastern and Western training regions for 2016.
Please make sure you are very familiar with the key dates and processes.

Please note: If successful in being offered a place of training you will be required to submit end of term assessments for mandatory hospital terms so you may want to get these together now. Please refer to page 14 of the 2016 AGPT Handbook regarding the mandatory hospital terms. Further information can be found at:

  • ACRRM – Core Clinical Training Policy.
  • RACGP – General Practice: A guide for students and junior doctors.
  • In addition please take note of the mandatory RACGP paediatric term requirements.

Stage 3 selection process for NSW training regions

The following selection process will apply to applicants shortlisted to a NSW training region:

  • North Eastern NSW
  • Lower Eastern NSW
  • Western NSW
  • 1. Sub-region preferences
  • In instances where there are training places available in more than one sub-region for a given pathway in a training region, shortlisted NSW training region applicants will be contacted by email and asked to rank their sub-region preferences.
  • A map and table of the sub-regions is available overleaf.
  • Applicants will be required to submit their preferences by the specified deadline (see below).
  • With the exception of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants who have requested priority shortlisting and Australian Defence Force (ADF) applicants, allocations to sub-regions will be made based on merit, using the applicant’s overall National AGPT Assessment Score.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants who have requested priority shortlisting and ADF applicants will be automatically allocated to their preferred sub-region.
  • 2. Sub-region allocation
  • Where applicable, applicants will be notified if they have been allocated to a sub-region for final training offer consideration, and which one.
  • Please note: As more applicants are shortlisted to a training region than there are places available, applicants whose National AGPT Assessment Score places them below the number of training places available in a training region pathway may not be shortlisted to a sub-region.
These applicants will be held in reserve and may be contacted if training places become available. If places become available, reserve applicants will be allocated to relevant sub-regions for training place consideration using their National AGPT Assessment Score and sub-region preferences.
  • 3. Final selection process
  • Applicants successful in being shortlisted to a sub-region will be required to participate in the following selection process:
  • a. General pathway shortlisted sub-region applicants
    • Shortlisted applicants in bands 1-6 may be offered a training place within their allocated sub-region up to the number of training places available.
    • Shortlisted applicants in bands 7-10 may be assessed for overall suitability. This may include contacting an applicant, conducting further interviews, or contacting an applicant’s referee(s) to seek additional information
    b. Rural pathway shortlisted sub-region applicants
    • All rural pathway shortlisted applicants will be required to complete a rural suitability essay. A copy of this essay question will be available on each NSW regional training provider website. Applicants will be required to submit this essay by the deadline (see key dates below). Rural pathway reserve applicants will also be required to complete the rural suitability essay by this deadline to ensure they are sufficiently prepared to enter the selection process if training places become available.
    • Rural pathway shortlisted applicants may be contacted by the sub-region as part of this process.
    • Applicants in bands 7-10 may also be assessed for overall suitability. This may include contacting an applicant, conducting further interviews, or contacting an applicant’s referee(s) to seek additional information.
  • Applicants should be aware when accepting a training offer with a sub-region that current Regional Training Providers (RTPs) are responsible for placing GP term registrars in the first half of 2016 only.
  • It is an expectation that registrars who are requesting, and have been deemed as being GP term ready for the first half of 2016, will undertake their first GP training term within the sub-region that they accepted a training offer. However, please note:Due to timing of round 2, availability of GP terms may be limited. Please contact the current training provider of the sub-region you are interested in for further information.
  • Beyond the first half of 2016, the location of the registrar’s training will be determined by the training organisation announced as the successful tenderer to deliver the AGPT program in this region from 2016. It is anticipated that these organisations will be known by October 2015.
  • Training offer declines or unsuccessful applicants:
  • If an applicant declines to participate in the selection process for their allocated sub-region or fails to meet key deadlines, they will be withdrawn from the current round of selection.
  • If an applicant is unsuccessful in being offered a training place with their allocated sub-region, they will be withdrawn from the current round of selection.
  • If an applicant declines a training place offer with their allocated sub-region, they will be withdrawn from the current round of selection.
  • Applicants should be aware there may not be further rounds of selection for 2016. For more information, please visit the .
